Space pirates are the badies of the space game.
They dont dare enter the regulated 8 main systems of the empire.
When you develop warp drive technology and jump to new systems, you will be vulnerable to nasty space pirates
You will be able to research weponry on your space station to defend yourself.
Your ships computer will not allow any firing upon friendly space craft.
