There are currently 2 systems with asteroids orbiting a planet, Vulcan and Veritas.

Asteroid mining can be very productive as long as you have a warehouse built to offload excess product until you have enough of any one product to supply a contract.

It is not recomended for small ships of less than a few hundred tons unless you have a warehouse.

You are to maneuver your ship and with a special laser, heat and melt/explode an asteroid so as to harvest rare minerals from it.

You will most probably have to turn off gravity anchor and match speed of an asteroid to be close enough for long enough time.

Left click mouse button on the asteroid when close enough to activate laser and maneuver ship to keep the beam on the asteroid.

You need to heat the asteroid to the correct level for extraction of minerals.

Heating too much will destroy it, not enough will achieve nothing. Keep a watch on the colour it glows while heated.

You will have to experiment with how much laser input is required to achieve best results.

Not all the asteroids are valuable, the good ones will be labeled by there type, some are rare and hard to find.

Several new minerals are available for use in research on your space station or sale at the contract boards.

  • Silicon - needed for your Electronics Factory or sold on the contracts board.
  • Magnesium - ship yard item construction and can be sold on the contracts board.
  • Uranium - land and ship based reactors, can be sold on the contracts board.
  • Tin - Used in ship yard item contruction and can be sold on contracts board.
  • Niobium - Used in ship yard item construction and can be sold on contracts board.

Other minerals such as Iron, Carbon, Titanium and Aluminium are got from various asteroids aswell.

Mineable asteroids and their content are...

  • Kamacite - Iron.
  • Siderite - Iron and Silicon.
  • Ureilite - Iron, Carbon, Silicon and Magnesium.
  • Angrite - Iron, Aluminium, Silicon, Magnesium, Tin and Titanium.
  • Chrondite - Iron, Aluminium, Carbon, Silicon and Magnesium.
  • Autunite - Uranium and Silicon.
  • Colombrite - Silicon, Iron and Niobium.
