UNDER CONSTRUCTION - JUNE 2015 - IdeoPraxist

Contents

First Steps

To begin researching blueprints, an Inner Star Base (ISB) / Private Space Station needs to be constructed in Apollo. To obtain an ISB, the option to purchase a basic space station for 10,000 credits only becomes available in the SS Plato NPC (Non-Player Character) station in the Apollo star system when you complete the Susan Steele storyline for finding and delivering mining robots.

Also look in different NPC stations in the Contracts board to purchase the Research Laboratory Blueprint (contacts change every 15-30 minutes and price may vary):

If possible, also find the Starbase Warehouse and Shipyard blueprint as soon as possible.

After the purchases, in order to see your ISB in Apollo, you may need to leave the Apollo star system and return, or restart the game. When you return to Apollo, open your Autopilot and look for Apollo Deep Space. This is the permanent location of your new ISB.

When you see the ring, the first object you want to construct is a Research Laboratory. Select Plan Module, Research Laboratory, and hover mouse over the side of the ring and left-click on the thin portion. The frame of the Research Laboratory should appear:

ISB - Plan Module - Research Laboratory

To make the Research Laboratory functional, you need to plug in the materials listed in the information box. In this case, you need 150 Aluminium, 300 Iron, 10 Titanium, 10 Carbon, 10 Mechanical Parts, and 10 Electronics. All these materials can be purchased from the Galactic Market, Stock Market, mining asteroids (minerals only), gathered from your settlements (minerals only), purchased from NPC stations (minerals only), or manufactured by you ISB (requires additional modules for Mechanical Parts and Electronics).

Gather the materials into your cargo hold and left-click on the Research Laboratory. If you have already completed a Starbase Warehouse, your can use the Supply All button and materials will be automatically used from the Starbase Warehouse during your session.

Construction will take 16 hours, 40 minutes (real-time). Only one Research Laboratory should be constructed since only one is allowed to do research.

Research

Research can be done in two different buildings, a Research Laboratory in your ISB and a Research Complex on your colony. Only one of each kind can be constructed per game account and the ISB Research Laboratory must be constructed first to research Research Complex. To do research, you either need blueprint fragments, collect blueprints from many different locations in the game, or create blueprints using the research options given to you by the Research Laboratory or Research Complex.

Currently you can:

  • Research New Blueprint for a shipyard.
  • Research Fusion Power Plant to increase Starbase (SB) production.
  • Research New Blueprint to use at SB shipyard.
  • Research the blueprint fragments obtained through wreckage salvaging.
  • Research Upclass on existing blueprints. Upclassing a blueprint will allow you to build the next higher class of module.
  • Research Improved Production for factories, farms and mines.

Research time for upclassing is the level times 24 hours. So upclassing a blueprint from 4 to 5 would take 4 days. Same goes for enhance production.

Research from a blueprint fragment takes approximately 24 hours.

Every Level of improvement to a land based building will give the item a plus 10% productivity on the basic rate, ie level 10 would be +100% = double productivity.

The Improvements are not automatically applied to existing buildings but need to be 'built' onto existing buildings as an upgrade and will require materials to complete.

  • Blueprints can be obtained in Janus A after completing the first two combat missions and at Deep-6 after completing the tutorial. Many blueprints do not show up unless the player has enough credits to purchase them.
  • The blueprints for high end ship modules do not show up untill after the ship blueprint is purchased
  • The gate part Blueprints - Class 12 Wormhole Generator and Promethium Capacitor do not appear after the seraph blueprint is purchased

Blueprints

Blueprints and blueprint fragments can be found all over the game.

Blueprint Fragments

Blueprint fragments are discovered by salvaging wrecks. Salvaging wrecks supplies class 6-10 ship modules blueprints fragments (including ship hulls), class 1 shields fragments, class 1 armour fragments, and is used in your research facility in your ISB. Side note: Only salvage wrecks if you plan to build lower-class ships at your shipyard. Otherwise, this is a waste of credits, especially to new players.

Blueprints in NPC Stations, Inner System (excluding Janus-A)

As you visit NPC stations and look on the contracts board, the following random contracts may be offered for sale:

Available Space Station Blueprints are:-

  • Mining Robot Factory - Build Mining robots to sell and use in Mines
  • Farming Robot Factory - Build Farming Robots to sell or use on Farms
  • Space Station Warehouse - Used to store manufactured goods, raw materials and food for your workers
  • Electronics Factory - Needed to produce Robots and upgrade land based buildings
  • Mechanical Parts Factory - Needed to produce Robots and upgrade land based buildings
  • Research Laboratory - Research improvements to existing blueprints and developing new blueprints

Some Space Station Blueprints are researched in your Research Laboratory

  • Fusion Power Plant - provides additional power to increase module production
  • Shipyard - Used to make hulls and ship modules
  • Ship module blueprints can be obtained in Janus A (some require completing the first two combat missions) and at Deep-6 after completing the tutorial. Many blueprints do not show up unless the player has enough credits to purchase them.
  • The blueprints for high end ship modules do not show up until after the ship blueprint is purchased
  • The gate part Blueprints, class 12 wormhole generator and class 12 promethium capacitor, do not show until after the seraph blueprint is purchased.

To build your settlement, you must purchase blueprints of many different building types. You can only get the Grain Farm blueprint through the storyline. You only need to buy the blueprint once, then you can build as many of that building type as you like.

Available Planetary Blueprints:

  • Grain Farm - for use on Ceres and outer colonies- only available from Susan Steele
  • Iron Mine - for use on Vulcan and outer colonies
  • Meat Farm - For use on Apollo and outer colonies
  • Vegetable Farm - for use on Ubertus and outer colonies
  • Fruit Farm - for use on Pomona and outer colonies
  • Titanium Mine - for use on Veritus and outer colonies
  • Aluminium Mine - for use on Vestra and outer colonies
  • Carbon Mine - for use on Sol Invictus and outer colonies
  • Warehouse - for central storage of goods and outer colonies
  • Transport Grid - required to link your buildings together
  • Power Plant - to supply power to your buildings
  • Water Tower - to supply water to your buildings
  • Residential Tower - to house your workers
  • Entertainment Complex - to feed and entertain your workers - higher productivity

Blueprints in Janus-A, Inner System

The blueprints for any new class ship, relative modules, and jumpgate construction parts are introduced from this location. The jumpgate blueprints do not appear after the seraph blueprint is purchased (Class 12 Wormhole Generator and Class 12 Promethium Capacitor).

The Light blueprint was a Christmas 2014 gift given to active paying players. There is no other method to obtain this blueprint.

Advanced Research

Advanced Research allows a player to construct one research complex and one of each type of testing station on any of their colonies. To access Advanced Research, the Advanced Research option needs to be researched in your ISB as a blueprint (no blueprint is produced after three days, but once researched, more research options appear).
